Residential Film and Your Hardwood Floors

Sun damage is slow, permanent, and entirely preventable.

Residential Film and Your Hardwood Floors

Move a rug in a sunlit room after five years and you will see it: a hard line between the wood that was covered and the wood that was not. That is the same UV damage we talk about with car interiors, just on a bigger and more expensive surface.

It affects more than floors. Hardwood, engineered flooring, area rugs, sofa fabric, artwork, framed photographs, and even cabinet finishes all shift colour under long-term sun exposure. Nothing reverses it. Refinishing floors or reupholstering furniture is the only fix, and both cost far more than film.

Quality residential film rejects the overwhelming majority of UV. It does not make a room dark to do it — modern films can be nearly invisible while still cutting the part of the spectrum that causes fading.

Heat and visible light also contribute to fading, so films that reduce solar energy overall extend the life of your interior further. That is why we usually recommend a film that balances UV blocking with heat rejection rather than optimizing for one number.

If you have a room with big south or west glass and furniture you care about, this is one of the few home upgrades that quietly pays for itself.
