Fixing the Hot Room in Your House

Every home has one. It is almost always a glass problem.

Fixing the Hot Room in Your House

Nearly every house we visit has one room that runs hot. It is usually on the south or west side, it usually has the most glass, and the family has usually stopped using it in the afternoon.

The cause is straightforward: solar gain through glass, concentrated in one space. A central HVAC system balances the house on average, which means it never fixes a single room — it just runs longer trying.

Window film targets the source instead of the symptom. By rejecting a large portion of the solar energy at the glass, it reduces how much heat enters that room in the first place. The rest of the system then has a fair fight.

The measurable side effects are lower cooling runtime and a smaller temperature spread across the house. The felt side effects are being able to sit near the window, use the room in the afternoon, and see your screen.

We assess exposure, glass type, and what the room is used for, then recommend the film that fits — solar, mirror for large glazing, or a lighter option where you want the view untouched. It is one of the cheaper fixes available for a problem most people assume they have to live with.
