Residential Film in Winter, Not Just Summer

Glare, cold spots, and the low sun nobody plans for.

Residential Film in Winter, Not Just Summer

People think of window film as a summer product. In Ottawa, half of its value shows up between November and March.

The first reason is the sun angle. Low winter sun comes in almost horizontally, straight into your eyes at the kitchen table and straight onto every screen in the house. It is far worse than a high summer sun, and film takes the edge off it all day.

The second is fading. Snow reflects, which means UV exposure in winter can be surprisingly high in south-facing rooms. Fading does not pause for the season.

The third is comfort near the glass. Certain films add a small insulating benefit that slightly reduces the cold radiating off a large window. It will not replace better windows, and we will not claim it does — but sitting beside that glass feels less harsh.

The practical advantage of booking in winter is scheduling. Our residential calendar is far more open in the cold months than it is the week the first heat wave hits, and the work is entirely indoors.
