Five Signs Your Old Tint Needs to Come Off

Failing film only gets worse — and harder to remove.

Five Signs Your Old Tint Needs to Come Off

Purple. If your film has shifted from black toward purple or bronze, the dye has broken down. There is no reversing it and the adhesive is usually degrading at the same rate.

Bubbles. Small bubbles scattered across a panel months or years after installation are adhesive failure, not curing. They spread, and they never go away.

Lifting edges. Film peeling at the top edge of a door window or at the corners of the rear glass means the bond has let go. Once it starts, dirt gets underneath and accelerates it.

Haze or scratching. The scratch-resistant coat wears out eventually, especially where the window seal rubs. A hazy panel you cannot clean clear is worn film.

Cloudiness that never cleared. If a film went on months ago and is still milky, it did not cure properly, usually because of a prep or application issue.

The one piece of advice we give: do not try to remove it yourself on the rear windshield. Peeling film off defroster lines almost always takes the lines with it, and repairing those costs far more than professional removal.
