Winter Tint Care in Ottawa
Salt, scrapers, and defrosters — how to not damage your film.

Ottawa winters are hard on cars and film is no exception, but almost all winter damage we see is avoidable.
The biggest one is ice scrapers on the inside of the glass. On a cold morning, condensation freezes on the interior of the windshield and rear glass, and a plastic scraper will gouge film instantly. Use the defroster and a soft cloth instead.
Second is the rear defroster. Film is applied over those lines, and quality film handles the heat fine. What it does not handle is someone peeling frost or a sticker off the interior surface and lifting the film with it.
Third is cleaning. Use an ammonia-free cleaner and a microfibre cloth. Ammonia breaks down film adhesive and can haze the surface over time; most blue household glass cleaners contain it.
Finally, if you get your film installed in the cold months, allow extra curing time. Low temperatures slow the moisture out of the adhesive, so a little haze can last a week or two longer than it would in July. Keep the windows up, be patient, and it settles perfectly.
