Ontario Window Tint Laws Explained

What you need to know about tint rules in Ontario before you choose a shade.

Ontario Window Tint Laws Explained

Before you book tinting in Ottawa, it helps to understand the rules. Ontario's Highway Traffic Act focuses on visibility for the driver and for others looking into the car, especially the windshield and front side windows.

The windshield is the most restricted glass. Most drivers add a strip along the top, or a light film like our chameleon windshield tint that rejects heat without noticeably darkening the view.

Front side windows matter for visibility — police and other drivers need to be able to see you, and you need a clear view at night. Rear side windows and the back glass generally have more flexibility, provided you have working side mirrors.

Rules and enforcement can change, so always check the current Ontario regulations before you choose. When you visit, we'll show you shade samples on your own glass and explain the options so you're comfortable with the result.

If you want dark windows but worry about the rules, switch tint is worth a look: it stays clear when you need it and goes private when you're parked.
